Town-Center Hikes and Oftenåsen

‍You don't have to travel far to get panoramic views. Right next to the campsite, you'll find the trail network leading out into the terrain. An absolute favorite among locals and visitors alike is the hike up Oftenåsen. With an elevation gain of around 200 meters, the uphill climb provides a good dose of exercise, and at the top, you are rewarded with spectacular views over Steinkjer town, the Beitstad Fjord, and the rolling Trøndelag countryside. Here, you can also take a well-deserved break in the world's largest garden chair! If you prefer a gentler start to the day, follow the pleasant walking trails winding along the riverbank right next to the campsite—perfect for an evening walk with the dog or a refreshing morning stroll.

Lake Svarttjønna on Byafjellet – Canoeing, Fishing, and Idyll

‍Just a short drive away lies Byafjellet and the outdoor recreation area at Lake Svarttjønna. From the ski stadium, an easy-to-walk 3-kilometer trail and gravel road lead into the lake. At Svarttjønna, the trekking association has established a fantastic area for the whole family. Here, you'll find a boathouse where you can borrow canoes completely free of charge to explore the lake from the water. Trying your luck at trout fishing is also free, and around the lake, there are several great picnic spots and fire pits set up for a long, cozy day outdoors.

Magnificent Hike to Norway's Geographical Center

‍For those looking to experience untouched Trøndelag wilderness bordering Skjækerfjella National Park, a day trip to the geographical center of Norway in Ogndal is an absolute must. The trail starts at Krokbekken and takes you through a magical landscape of bogs and forests. What makes this hike unique is that nearly the entire 9-kilometer route to the center point follows a well-maintained wooden boardwalk path. This means you can easily keep your feet dry throughout the terrain—even in regular sneakers! Once there, you'll find the Geographical Center marker, great picnic spots at Setertjønnhytta, and a cozy lean-to shelter looking out over the majestic Skjækerfjella mountains.
